With reference to the appointment of a Chief

Assistant at this Observatory, I have the honour to request that the

vacancy be advertised in "The Times" and "Nature" somewhat as

follows.

*The post of "Chief Assistant" at the Hongkong

"Observatory will become vacant in June, 1912. Salary

*E360 to £420.

*Candidates, who must be British subjects, should

*forward their applications (in their own handwriting),

"with not more than 3 testimonials, to the Colonial

"Secretary, Hongkong, so as to reach the Colony not later

"than March 31.

"Further particulars may be obtained from the

*Colonial Office, London”.
